The "Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment" is an extremely fast-performing and energy-saving desktop environment.

Maintained by an international community of developers, it comes with a beautiful interface, multi-language support, standard keyboard short cuts and additional features like tabbed file browsing. LXDE uses less CPU and less RAM than other environments.

Preparation

Make sure you have the latest packages installed.

Terminal.png sudo conary updateall

Install Lxde

Terminal.png sudo conary install group-lxde-dist

When it's done, reboot system and choose lxde before you login. Now you are in LXDE, lets remove xfce or gnome environment.
Open /etc/conary/system-model, remove the line that has: install group-gnome-dist
Or remove group-xfce-dist. But only if you want LXDE and nothing else. If want to use gnome/xfce later, then you might want to leave it alone. then:

Terminal.png sudo conary updateall

Lxde Minimal

Lxde is setup with a main group (group-lxde-dist). Inside that group, we have smaller groups that provides all packages for lxde.

Lxde Groups

Instead of installing group-lxde-dist, you can install those groups you want to install.

Issues

Move notify bubbles

Currently, we haven't solved how to move notify to down right corner.
Lets move notify bubbles

Terminal.png gconftool-2 -s /apps/notify-osd/gravity --type=int 3

Now you have notify bubbles in right place. See all tweaks/settings for notify-osd here: Notifyosd notifications

Conary gets broken, if going from devel installation

Some reports about conary won't work after changed to Lxde, might be a rpm path that causes this issue. As Package.pngrpm gets removed. Open terminal and write:

Terminal.png sudo mv /var/lib/rpm /var/lib/rpm.old

Now it will work as normal again.

QT apps wont show gtk theme

To get QT application to use your theme. Open terminal and write:

Terminal.png qtconfig-qt4

Choose GTK+ for theme. And use menu > File > Save
Now will the qt applications look normal.

High CPU usage or volumeicon won't show up in notify tray

If you get a high cpu or volumeicon won't show up. You might hit a issue with volumeicon, read and fix it: here
