Let’s start with latest change in Foresight Lxde. We changed from gimp to mypaint. Not as many features as gimp has, but still it can do alot of things with a picture. Mypaint is alot smaller application, starts faster, demands less resources than gimp.
Chromium pepper flash
We updated chromium pepper flash plugin for chromium to version: 18.104.22.168
Updated flashplayer to 22.214.171.1248
Updated chromium to 23.0.1271.99
Updated wine to 1.5.19
Updated rtorrent to 0.9.3
+ many more packages…………..
We have added darktable into Foresight Lxde environment.
If you use Gnome or Xfce, you can easily install it with:
sudo conary install darktable
In a near future, a conary updateall will install this application in your Lxde environment. If you want to uninstall it, just run:
sudo conary erase darktable
We have added acroread as the default pdf reader in Foresight LXDE.
Probably one of the best pdf readers in Linux.
To install it in Gnome or Xfce, read about it: here
Some changes been made in Lxde. There isn’t so much to tell, so will write about the biggest changes only.
This is more like to know what changed lately. therefore lack of some information.
Using themes color for the panel, won’t be black all the time.
Changed default theme to “absolute”
In the end of october, new release of pcmanfm will be released. And hopefully it will get into Foresight pretty fast.
It’s time to get involved into Foresight Lxde.
We are currently using chromium as default in Lxde, but firefox and opera handles flash (youtube) alot better. Uses less cpu. Chromium starts alot faster than Firefox. Opera renders some webpages much faster than chromium and firefox.
Let’s start voting for the browser that would be as default in Foresight Lxde. Give us a comment if you got some information about the browsers.
To install the browsers in Foresight and test them:
sudo conary install chromium=foresight.rpath.org@fl:2-devel
sudo conary install firefox=foresight.rpath.org@fl:2-devel
sudo conary install opera=foresight.rpath.org@fl:2-devel
Can only choose 2 out of 3 in the poll.
We recommend to run: http://peacekeeper.futuremark.com and see which browser will generate best results. Only chromium have full html5 support.
Iv’e been struggling to find a easy way to get QT apps to look nice in Lxde, so far they looked like Win 95 did.
A user request motivated me to fix tomahawk. After it was done, it looked like crap. So decided to hunt down and find a solution to get Lxde theme to work with QT applications too. After awhile, I found a great and easy solution. This is probably not an issue in Gnome or Xfce.
Open terminal and write:
Choose GTK+ in “Select GUI Style
Choose File > Save and close it.
Now your QT applications will look normal.

Some might notice that conky wont be visible on desktop if you start conky and leftclick on desktop, it will dissapear.
Iv’e been written a howto to solve this problem, also works for pcmanfm. (we use Spacefm in foresight) And it will work in other Linux os, like Fedora, Arch or Lubuntu.
Here is the Howto: http://www.foresightlinux.se/wiki-en/index.php?title=Conky

LXkb-config is an aplication used to select the your keyboard configuration. It is written in C using glib and GTK+. This aplication is being actively developed (2011) by the NOVA Ligth project (www.nova.cu).
It’s in Foresight Lxde as default now.
I just bought Trine 2 for linux to my Foresight Linux lxde computer. I coulden’t start it in full window, had to choose “Run in window”.
Might be the issue:
error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.3.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Anyway, very happy to be able to play the game without any huge issues. I recommend this game for 10+ age and above. My daughter loved it.
Read, watch trailer and buy the game from their site: http://trine2.com/
